NOT RECOMMENDED: Bowman McCabe Solicitors, Lucan, Co Dublin

If anyone ever asked me to advise them on solisitors - the one thing I am sure to say is DO NOT go to Bowman McCabe.

They are the most unprofessional people I have ever come across. I had the misfortune of appointing them solicitors for a house purchase and I will never make the same mistake again.

The very first day I went to meet them they asked me to sign paperwork with someone else's name on it, when I pointed this out - the solicitor just scratched out the name and wrote my name down on this bank document. Didn't seem in the least embarassed that they were not even able to produce paperwork in the correct name. Anyway, passed that hurdle only to be phoned 4 days later by the solicitors' secretary and she wanted me to clarify what I had mentioned to the solicitors as she could not read his writing. I was so surprised that I had to mention to her how unprofessional she sounded and she just dropped that altogether. On highlighting this to the solicitor his answer was to say that he was in court that day and to hurry matters his secretary made the call, considering I had had the meeting 4 days previously, in my opinion the secretary had enough time to clarify her boss's writing with him, rather than calling the client.

At this stage I was starting to get rather worried, so I decided to make a call to their offices to speak with them, I highlighted my concerns and left without any apology, they just seemed to take it in their stride - yet another one complaining kind of way!!!

The next day I received a call requesting me to go to the offices again as they had got the incorrect paperwork signed from the on Day 1.

I has thought that we get solicitors involved because they are meant to ensure that every detail in the paperwork is correct and that the work is carried out professionally and without errors, obviously Bowman McCabe haven't attended the same school of thought.

Guess what, it didn't end there - banks returned my paperwork as the incorrect residential address was mentioned, even though I had highlighted this to the solicitors at my very first meeting this was not corrected. I was delighted to see our deal close, only because I didn't have to deal with them again. And I must add, for a first time buyer, not once did any member of the team at Bowman McCabe wish me well with my new house or congratulate me!!!

Hi Euro1234,

Well, as a lay person, when you read about people getting of cases because of wrong details on documents, I think that you are very entitled to be worried when you receive incorrect documents.

I got worried once about a letter with the wrong name on it. The Law Society sent me a letter from my solicitor concerning a complaint, only the letter had the wrong name on top. The Law Society wanted my comments. I said to them that I was not going to comment on a letter written about somebody else or that could in the future be claimed as being about somebody else and would they go back to the solicitor to see if he could write a proper letter. The Law Society replied to say that the person named on their letter was a member of Law Society staff that had spoken to my solicitor about my complaint and that the Law Society would be obliged if I would comment on the substance of the letter.

Of course I obliged them. I think the premise here, was that it was obvious to them and therefore should be obvious to anybody else that the letter was about me. Perhaps it was the same with your letter.
Anyway it would be better if the letter was done right in the first place.
