24th of Oct, 2007 The High Court has been told that the whereabouts of a solicitor whose practice was shut down by the Law Society yesterday are unknown. Thomas Byrne, from Lad Lane, Baggot St in Dublin, with a practice in Walkinstown, is being investigated by the Law Society. Mr Byrne's practice is the second to be shut down by the Law Society in the last week and a half.
24th of Oct, 2007 Mr Walsh A good service provided to me at all times. Was always very satisfied with this solicitor.
24th of Oct, 2007 Bank can't find 9m loan solicitor! High Court has frozen his accounts, but I'm sure Thomas has an honest explanation for all this.
24th of Oct, 2007 To all those who have defended this disgrace of a human being, I hope you're happy. I hope he rots.
2nd of Oct, 2006 I would confirm all that has been said on this guy and his colleagues. I would not use him again. His costs are high and he is not very good.
6th of Sep, 2006 I would NEVER, NEVER use this guy again. Never returns phone calls. I had a major problem with employment law and him and his partner (Carmel) - due to their lazyness. I missed out on up to 25,00 in a redundency package. Nice work by them. NEVER use him.
6th of Sep, 2006 Liar - DO NOT TOUCH
6th of Sep, 2006 Never returns phone calls
6th of Sep, 2006 He always looks for ways to avoid you. Lies on the phone. Tells you he'll ring you back, and his partners are just as bad.
6th of Sep, 2006 How this man is not closed down? Do the legal work yourself you'll have more chance of getting what you want.
6th of Sep, 2006 Idiot. Very expensive for him not doing any work.
6th of Sep, 2006 Wouldn't like to be going to court with this guy. Thomas if you are reading this, I hope your business suffers and people start leaving you as you are useless. Remember, without the public you don't have a job.
6th of Sep, 2006 Who gave this guy qualifications? Terrible and nasty man. Doesn't care about the client.
6th of Sep, 2006 Do not use this guy. If you are using him, change to someone new as this guy will not help you and he is so frustrating to deal with.
6th of Sep, 2006 Used this guy once and never again. He messed up on the purchase of a house and we lost out on it. I'd hate to have him for something serious.
6th of Sep, 2006 Think he's bad - his partner Carmel Rafter is much worse. I guess she's been learning from him.
6th of Sep, 2006 What has been written about this guy is so true. Glad I'm not the only one that feels that he is terrible. Hope he goes out of business.
6th of Sep, 2006 The worst solicitor in Dublin. Surely the Law Society need to investigate this guy and bar him from taking people's money or disqualify him.
6th of Sep, 2006 I used use him. Avoid like the plague. backstabbing liars. I wouldn't trust him with a penny much less a court case or my property.
6th of Sep, 2006 Do not engage this solicitor or deal with his company under any circumstances. It will cost you dearly.
6th of Sep, 2006 Do not use this company under any circumstances.
6th of Sep, 2006 No one will ever have a good word about this guy. Thomas, not long till you are finally out of business. Thank God.
7th of Sep, 2006 Thomas your public have voted !! It makes you look like carry-on-solicitor !
7th of Sep, 2006 Henry Great firm.
8th of Sep, 2006 What a useless guy. Glad to see everyone else has the same story. Don't touch him.
8th of Sep, 2006 Told me he lost my number four times. What a joke. This guy needs to give up soon or be closed down.
8th of Sep, 2006 Wouldn't let Thomas touch anything legal again.
8th of Sep, 2006 This guy is a walking disaster. To those in the Law Society: Do your job and strike him off.
8th of Sep, 2006 I wish I'd known about this website months ago. I made the mistake of dealing with him for my apartment purchase. He was rude, ignorant and often refused to answer my calls. I've taken this to the law society. It's incredible how little regulation there is with lawyers.
8th of Sep, 2006 I made the mistake of dealing with him for my apartment purchase. NEVER NEVER NEVER AGAIN.
8th of Sep, 2006 Sit in his front office talking to others and his staff who mans the phone. They all say the same. Useless. Even the staff say that they are sick of lying for him. And most of their time is taken up with complaints about him and the other girl Carmel.
2nd of Oct, 2006 Mrs Lemas I can't believe the comments I am reading. I have been a client of Thomas's for 10 years. Found him always to be courteous, gracious and efficient. Thomas, keep up the good work.
19th of Sep, 2006 I dealt with this firm on the recommendation of a friend. Had no probs.
17th of Oct, 2006 Susan Thomas finds it very easy to tell lies no matter how absurd to anyone...client/employee/even his own mother. He couldn't care less about his clients or his staff.
22nd of Nov, 2006 Martin I know nothing about this solicitor however I find it somewhat strange that there are 17 "avoid" notices posted on 6th Sept and a further 7 "avoid" on the 8th Sept. Is there just the slightest possibility that some or even all were posted by the one person.
22nd of Nov, 2006 DP Have used this firm at least six times. Never had a problem, in fact, more then once they have impressed me.
25th of Nov, 2006 Trust me this is one guy to avoid. Won't take calls, lies, lies, lies, stay away
16th of Dec, 2006 Johnathan McCormac A truely hardworking solicitor that has dealt with my business legalities since I opened. I am absolutely horrified to see a good man's name disgraced in such a way.
31st of Dec, 2006 Tim Tyler This solicitor dealt with a damages claim for me professionally, courteously and punctually. I had NO problems and would use again.
5th of Feb, 2007 Keith Great firm, very friendly staff and Barbara & Ed are especially good! Fair play Thomas!
5th of Feb, 2007 Shelley Although I have never dealt with Thomas himself, I am a Legal Executive with 6 years experience and have just recently had dealings with the firm. I dealt with a girl called Aoife and she was very professional, always returned calls, sent stuff out when she said she would. She was out sick for a couple of days and still organised to have things signed when she was out. I think people forget how hard a job it is in the legal world and we can only do what we can. There are plenty of other factors going against us, i.e. the solicitor on the other side's purchase/sale, the bank!!! and sometimes the clients themselves as they think they know more than they actually do. You have to remember there is a lot more involved than getting your money from the bank, giving it to the other side and getting your keys. It can be an absolute nightmare with lots of other things to do that the client hasn't got a clue about because if they did they would be able to do it themselves. I do agree that some solicitors totally take the p**s and as I said I haven't dealt with Thomas directly but I have to say Aoife was very good and I would recommend her to anybody.
8th of Mar, 2007 NEVER AGAIN. Had problems selling my house because of their incompetence, wouldn't reply to my Solicitors letters, totally unprofessional set-up.
23rd of Mar, 2007 Former client You only have to look at the latest issue of the Law Society Gazette to know what Thomas Byrne has been up to!!!! Big slap on the wrist for using over €1.6m of clients funds
2nd of Jun, 2007 Ras O'Grady Dealt with the purchase of my house with no problems whatsoever. Sad to see this firm hounded by a vindictive bunch of pathetic sickos.
8th of Jun, 2007 O'Neill I used him for my house purchase, he wouldn't return any calls and nearly lost me the house, I feel sorry for his staff, lies, lies, lies.
2nd of Jul, 2007 Bridget King Thomas Byrne and his firm are excellent. I have dealt with them on many issues. I don't know why they are being slandered in such a manner. It is a true shame that Thomas' good name is trying to be ruined on the web.
29th of Oct, 2007 I dealt with Thomas Byrne & Co. They always returned my calls and expedited my legal affairs with efficiency and 100% professionalism. His firm will be a great loss to the "wild west".
12th of Jul, 2007 Satisfied client Completed a house purchase last week in record time. One of the best law firms in Dublin and I have dealt with a few. I had and have EVERY confidence in this firm and only once was my call not returned.
11th of Jul, 2007 F Sheridan This firm has been excellent in all dealings that I have had with them. Much better than the last firm. I have total and utmost confidence in Thomas and his staff. Fantastic.
11th of Jul, 2007 Superb team especially Thomas and Eddie working in tandem. A most efficient office and my calls are always returned.
17th of Jul, 2007 Rachel I have had dealings with this firm for the last few years and found them to be most efficient in all their dealings with me. They are a superb firm in EVERY RESPECT.
29th of Aug, 2007 Dealt with this firm a few years ago, Thomas' attitude is a disgrace. Files went missing, he didn't give a damn. NEVER AGAIN
2nd of Dec, 2007 Mary Byrne Always had swift responses from all of my dealings with this firm as well as very courteous responses. Genuinely saddened to hear of the news.
29th of Oct, 2007 Una Black I never ever had a problem with Thomas Byrne. I am not saying that I condone what he did but who the hell in this country is not corrupt and crooked, stop kicking a man that is down. He is an extremely intelligent and likeable person and many have no ill will towards this man.
24th of Oct, 2007 Peter I complained to the Law Society about this cowboy 8 years ago. He was then being investigated by the Revenue for spending clients' stamp duty. I received only 50% of my fees back. My father came with me for the last few meetings to Thomas Byrne's office. When we left my father said when he saw Thomas taking a Teletubbies style calculator out of his drawer to work out our final figures that this summed this clown up to a tee.
25th of Oct, 2007 Frances Sheridan I am very sorry about the news. It was the banks' fault. There but for the grace of God go us all. Typical Irish society to kick a dog when he is down. He was, is and always will be a very friendly person and I enjoyed his company immensely.
29th of Oct, 2007 A Barrister Have dealt with Thomas over a number of years and found him at all times to be approachable, courteous and highly efficient. Putting business aside I will miss working with him. He is/was/will be always very astute in all dealings. I wish him well.
24th of Oct, 2007 Brian Finally this man has been shut down by the Law Society. I heard on the news today that the IIB bank are frantically seeking Mr Byrne, he has gone missing... He owes them 9 million euro.
25th of Oct, 2007 Paddyo "Was handed the practice by his daddy". Don't know where this info came from - his dad (now deceased) worked in the post office.
25th of Oct, 2007 sassy Well another solicitor on the Hall of Shame bites the dirt. Well done to those who have kept their posts proper and correct and to the point. All the posts here appeared to be those of people who found him as he is and who did not have any agendas. Would those who are posting on other pages, Enright's etc, please take a lesson from this. Do not continue to politicise the other pages and comments, do not create rash posts, do not over personalise your posts. You are preventing those who may take action from doing so. Thank you.
29th of Oct, 2007 Columbo Warm the mattress in Mountjoy for Thomas. The last solicitor to take a compulsory sabbatical was Elio Malocco. He was only a small time crook compared to this jewel in the crown.
24th of Oct, 2007 Bobby This guy has cost my family so much in inheritance tax interest - due to gross incompetence. His Daddy handed him the practice - a spoilt brat. A total, total disaster. I reckon he must have a massive cocaine problem, because no one could be that bad yet have the brains to get a law degree. As from today (practice closed by Law Society 23-10-2007) the game is up - RIP Thomas Byrne Solicitors.
24th of Oct, 2007 Observer Note the High Court restriction placed on this firm 23rd Oct 2007. Be wary
24th of Oct, 2007 Margaret Dealt with Thomas with probate - took him 18 months to complete after being told it would take 3-4 months. Totally unreliable but the best liar I have ever met.
29th of Oct, 2007 Jenny Thomas, you are obviously posting up on this blog as different people to add balance to a very serious situation for you. "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time". You may have been licensed as a solicitor, but you have no idea about running a business or practice. You have let down everyone around you.
29th of Oct, 2007 Victim of Thomas Byrne To Frances Sheridan - he was very friendly to my family also before, during and after he signed our mother's house over to himself by forging a signature. I suppose that story would be considered amusing by some.
29th of Oct, 2007 blah blah Don't know why people are so upset the Law Society gave him a clean bill of health... sent him back amongst us... We should all now bend over and enjoy what else the Society sends out to us... Bottoms up!!!
24th of Oct, 2007 Green I will miss this firm. Always most approachable and I had weekly dealings with Thomas himself and will miss him.
29th of Oct, 2007 Unbelievable!! Frances Sheridan and Green - your comments amaze me. It would appear that this guy has run off with up to 100 million (just watch this space!) and these people are defending these actions. Do you also agree with Mr Byrne transferring clients properties into his own name, raising money on them and letting them continue to pay the mortgage. These people could possibly lose everything as a result of these actions and Frances Sheridan and Green have the neck to compliment this man... they must be as crooked as he is!
2nd of Nov, 2007 He's baaack! Thomas Byrne has returned to face the music at the High Court (Irish Independent)
3rd of Dec, 2007 Susan This guy is an absolute scumbag. And what's more an awful lot of innocent people have been affected by his criminal behaviour. Imagine what it must be like for his former staff, most probably totally oblivious to what he'd been up to.. can you imagine how difficult it would be to get a job with his firm on your CV? and God help his poor clients. A truly despicable human being, a pathological liar and a defrauding criminal. Hopefully he'll have ten to fifteen years in prison to contemplate his actions. A total waste of space.
19th of Nov, 2007 A Colleague Michael Staines trained this guy up. Signs by. Poor guy never had a chance being trained by that sleazy chancer.
12th of Nov, 2007 Celticwoman Mary, Carol, Frances, John and Kathy have you check the deeds of your houses recently?
2nd of Nov, 2007 Victim of Thomas Byrne To Carol, do you think I shouldn't begrudge him my modest inheritance? so should I let him have it do you think, that way I would not be committing the sin of begrudgery. Can I have all your money please because if you don't give it to me I will begrudge it. You are like someone who had a harmless encounter with a serial killer and despite the evidence you cannot see beyond your own experience. What exactly do you mean by "but for the grace of god go us all"? Do you mean any of us could be very wealthy but so greedy for more we could steal from whoever we could whenever we could. I thing mankind would be extinct if we all acted like that.
23rd of Nov, 2007 Barbara Byrne To Mr Walsh, Henry, Mrs Lemas, DP, Jonathan McCormac, Tim Tyler, Keith, Shelly, Ras O'Grady, Bridget King, Satisfied Client, F. Sheridan, Rachel, Una Black, Green, Kathy, John Dunhill, Carol White, Mary and not forgetting a barrister, if you exist, what utter idiots you must be! No point in rating this lad!
5th of Nov, 2007 Kathy Sickened by media and other attacks on Thomas Byrne & Co. I was/am a client of his for four years and never had any problems. Thomas and his staff were always professional, always returned calls. I was not charged for the services provided either as I was going through very bad time. I totally agree "there but for the grace of god go us all". Show some humanity and understanding.
22nd of Nov, 2007 Wolf from the door I can't understand the problem with Thomas Byrne. He is only 40 million in debt, 53 pending High Court complaints by clients, closed down by the Law Society and currently being investigated by the CAB. Give him some slack guys, everyone deserves a second chance.
24th of Nov, 2007 You people Who cares what he did. If the head of the country can take money from friends and so called dig outs why can't all of us. If Bertie won't step down why should anyone else?
5th of Nov, 2007 Mr D The Bank have repossessed his Bentley.
29th of Oct, 2007 Dr Friedman This man is a total disgrace to the legal profession. Over 10 years there have been countless complaints from the public about this cowboy to the Law Society of Ireland. They also should be held responsible for taking so long to act in the face of so many complaints over many years...
29th of Oct, 2007 George The Mail on Sunday said Thomas has absconded. "His wife that he is separated from has not heard from him since the story broke."
5th of Nov, 2007 John Dunhill I have dealt with this firm for some years. They are the best in the business. Always return calls. Never keep you waiting. No delays in paperwork. House completed in record time. Drinks on Thomas.
30th of Oct, 2007 Carol White This firm of solicitors I dealt with some years ago. Not only did he save me thousands but he did not charge me as I was going through a bad patch at that time. There are not many who would be as fair. As one person has already said, there but for the grace of god go us all. You begrudgers should take heed.
12th of Nov, 2007 Mary Terrible what has happened but in my personal experience I NEVER EVER had any problems with this firm despite having dealt with them for more than 5 years.
5th of Nov, 2007 Donal Mc This scum should rot in hell or somewhere worse. We lost family property through his deceitful "advice".
26th of Jan, 2008 Ger Can't believe you took me and my family for such fools and left us in such a mess. To think I trusted you and everything you told me. You have been described as a "wolf in sheep's clothes" well that says it all. You will never know about the sleepless nights, sickness, worry and problems you have caused us. I hope justice is done, you feasted on our compassion and you knew we were good honest hardworking people who only wanted what was best for our children.
26th of Jan, 2008 Longest clients Well Thomas, I wish we had read this site sooner and we would have reported you to the Law Society ourselves... for what good it would have done. 3 months later they haven't helped us in any way. Our new solicitors don't seem to know what to do either, we have lost in the region of 1 million euros and face a life of trying to work our way out of debt, all because of this man's dishonesty and lack of supervision by the Law Society. If they had closed this man down our lives and others would be a lot better today and we would be spared a lot of heartache and embarrassment. We were making lots of sacrifices to provide a better future for our family, but now over 10 years hard work we are back to square one and that's being optimistic. My sympathy is with the staff who endured this man and their careers stained.
31st of Jan, 2008 Yvonne I have dealt with Thomas since he started his practice back in 1992 and I've used him for all legal dealings up until he was closed, and I can honestly say hand on heart I never ever had a problem with him and always found him to be very nice and polite and professional. I wish him all the best and I hope to hear from him soon.
21st of Feb, 2008 Nemesis To Martin Burke and all the foolish and asinine supporters of TB, I have one question: have you checked the deeds of your house in the last 6 months? I would if I were you. In fact anyone who has had any dealings with the gorgeous, polite and courteous Thomas in the last 18 months should do this. I know an elderly couple who paid off their mortgage and lodged the deeds with Thomas for safekeeping. They are blissfully unaware that he 'bought' the house from them without actually paying for it. I know a lady who Thomas kindly brought to lunch the week before the scandal broke and unknown to her he had already 'bought' her holiday home, again without paying for it. To all the supporters of TB it would be great if you could spare a thought for the innocent people he has ripped off. I am certain he will spend time in jail so if you are all determined to support him despite the evidence, make sure to visit him in prison. Thomas, shame on you. I don't know how you are able to sleep at night.
29th of Jan, 2008 Dee This man took out 6 loans on my properties and still lied to my face. He is an evil little man who will get what he deserves. Thomas, I hope you read this and that you are the one left with nothing.
10th of Feb, 2008 AVOID (understatement). I have no faith in either the Law Society or the banks now as they are not looking after the innocent people who paid and put their trust in these educated respected people to carry out the appropriate procedures and checks when buying and selling property... this country is going to collapse all because of lack of supervision on governing authorities behalf. Even when it was brought to their attention they still allowed him to practice... Scandalous.
10th of Feb, 2008 Patricia I have read Yvonne's comment above and I agree with her entirely. I never had any problem with Thomas and dealt with him many times over the years. I too wish him well and also hope he links up with his friends in the legal world.
9th of Feb, 2008 Con I don't know who is writing the good reports about this man... himself! Well he was apparently good at forgery... He is a useless, good for nothing, liar (not lawyer) who has ruined many innocent people's lives with his lies, and what's more I don't think very much is being done by the Law Society or the banks to clear up this mess for the ordinary punter who cannot be insured against losses such as this, whereby your solicitor robs you! This system is a joke, no wonder Ireland is heading for a recession with guys like this getting away with white collar robbery.
13th of Feb, 2008 Re Carol White, 30th Oct 2007 That is what I said, "there but for the grace of God go us all". And if it wasn't for the grace of corrupt solicitors we would all have got away without paying for their self-serving shenanigans. Begrudgers my arse. Get a life. Alan Mac, Smithfield, D8
13th of Feb, 2008 Martin Burke Never any problems with the firm. Always courteous and returned all calls within the hour.
3rd of Mar, 2008 Paul Kelly Avoid
3rd of Mar, 2008 byrnelynnvictims We have set up an email address for all victims of Byrne and Lynn. I feel there are many like ourselves fighting a losing battle both with the banks and the legal profession. Perhaps if all victims come together we would all have a stronger case. Email us on byrnelynnvictims@yahoo.com
14th of Jul, 2008 Sean It may sound like a double life from other comments on here but Thomas was an excellent lawyer in all my dealings with him. Reliable and thorough and the first lawyer I've ever met with an ability to help me understand the gobbledegook. I think he's the fall guy.
20th of Mar, 2008 Just realised that a solicitor's undertaking is not worth the paper it is written on and the self regulating 'Law Society' have a cap of 700,000 euro on each client... anyone who was investing in the property game will be left high and dry while Mr Byrne walks away and leaves it all behind him like a bad dream while his victims' lives are shattered and will have to live the nightmare for many years to come. Where is the justice in that scenario? Great idea to set up byrnelynnvictims@yahoo.com
22nd of Jul, 2008 Thomas Byrne's partner, Ms Carmel Rafter, has now resurfaced working for Tim O'Sullivan & Co. of Molesworth Street. Keep well away from the both. Very dodgy indeed! Ms Rafter is implicated in a case with O'Sullivan now with the Law Society.
7th of Aug, 2008 Former staff member Beware of Carmel Rafter. She's trouble, and very nasty to deal with. She caused us serious problems with our unfortunate clients. I see she's moved on to another practice.
13th of Sep, 2008 LLP What's the story on this man now, is he being let go just like Lynn, out of sight out of mind.
17th of Oct, 2008 Ms Rafter and O'Sullivan now! God help us all... the Bonnie and Clyde of the legal profession. Come back Thomas wherever you are!
30th of Dec, 2008 Sean, former client What is the story, has everyone forgotten about this man? The banks now seem to be grabbing all the headlines, don't forget he needs to spend 10+ years in prison. Don't dare look for the "family" sympathy vote and was he on his own or did someone push him??
3rd of Jan, 2009 Celine Read and note the comment of a Sean of July 14th 2008, especially the last sentence. THAT IS THE TRUTH RE THOMAS BYRNE.
17th of Feb, 2009 Dave I used his company when I bought my house 11 years ago. He did not pay stamp duty to the tax people and failed to lodge change of ownership of my house with the Land Registry office. We now have to go through new solicitors to sort the mess out, not able to sell this house til it is registered to me. He is a waste of space.
2nd of Feb, 2009 Jonathan Nothing is heard of Thomas Byrne anymore. What a pity this decent guy has been victimised. He was a good lawyer and didn't deserve this. It's interesting that he has always appeared at any court hearing while others abscond. It underlines the decent kind of man he is. I hope luck comes his way.
8th of Feb, 2009 Obviously Jonathan, your life savings were not robbed by Thomas Byrne and your life turned upside down. What a load of rubbish, the only luck this guy deserves is to rot in jail!! Only someone of the same make up would come out with such a rubbish statement. Hope you're not a solicitor, if you are I hope I don't have the misfortune of dealing with you...
19th of Feb, 2009 Suzanne He's obviously not practicing anymore, but what this man has done to his clients is a disgrace. If his clients end up paying for his insane ways there are serious flaws in the Irish legal system... He has been previously investigated by his brother's accounting firm... how handy, well done Law Society of Ireland.
25th of Mar, 2009 Mary Every cloud has a silver lining. My friend owed 4,000 euro for an overinflated bill and seriously flawed advice to Thomas Byrne and now he does not have to pay him. There is some justice after all.
27th of Apr, 2009 The Law Society struck him off, so I fail to understand the previous comment.
19th of Apr, 2009 Sharon Thomas is still walking free, why? The Law Society are hoping that with time, the media will forget.
8th of May, 2009 Ella There is no doubt Thomas Byrne did wrong. But I wonder that nobody has questioned the banks' role in all of this. They were handing out money recklessly to all and sundry, including Mr Byrne, and individuals within the bank were taking a handsome commissions, yet not thoroughly ensuring everything was in order. They aren't being struck off. They won't go to prison. They still have their commission and are living comfortably. Greed is at the bottom of this and I suspect many of the entries here are guilty of that too.
26th of May, 2009 Poor Thomas, crying in the court room because his MOTHER'S house is going to be taken off her. Well, now you know how it feels. Just under two years on and I am still waiting on my compensation. Law Society is not very helpful either, yet there is a fund set up that every solicitor has to pay into from their wages. So don't try and tell me that there is no compensation, or maybe the Law Society is another form of Thomas Byrne and his friends???
28th of May, 2009 Dealt with the very slimy, smarmy Thomas Byrne. Hope he ends up keeping some big hairy con company for a lot of years if the gangsters don't get him first. The staff I met in his office are also lowlife scumbags. Wonder if they are still looking down their noses?
24th of Mar, 2010 sinead o looney dealt with him once and he was superb. Quick and efficient with a great staff and barrister behind him. Could not praise him highly enough.
22nd of Nov, 2009 wake up people Still out and about walking free, how long does it take to prepare a case on so called fraud,i suppose the same lenght as it will take with our banks.?
17th of Nov, 2009 Tiredandemotional Thomas Byrne fraudently attmepted to change the deeds of my late mothers house to his own name and also took out a mortgage on the house. Our solicitor and barrister have been hopeless and we have made almost no progress on the matter in the last 2 years. Does anyone know the names of any trustworthy!! solicitor who has successfully concluded a similar case against Thomas Byrne. Has anyone been successful in gaining compensation for loss of value on their property due to Thomas Byrnes actions. Any information would be very welcome.
29th of Nov, 2009 Bishop Murphy Did you ever see such nonesence as that printed in todays mail on sunday,Thomas Byrne is no more reliant on dole payout as George Bush is,simply a publicity stunt set up by the Law Society to show what hard times Mr Byrnes has fallin onto. The question still remains, how much of the 50 million that he defrauded has been paid back, and why this case has not been brought to the courts yet? and for that so called deshiveled look, well in my part of the country ,we call it fashion or style, anyway the scruffy look suits him.Shame on the Mail for not asking the proper questions.
5th of Feb, 2010 frank im still waiting for me money
12th of Feb, 2010 former client since 93 Hello Tiresandemotional, I know how you feel almost 2 1/2 yrs now will he get any time behind bars. 15th of Mar, 2010 tiredandemotional Still no progress on getting our house back. I saw in last weeks Irish Times ...A client of disgraced solicitor Thomas Byrne has failed to secure legal costs relating to his efforts to recover title documents to his home, which were used by Mr Byrne to obtain mortgages from two banks. Dermot Naughton was a completely innocent victim left to pick up the tab for Mr Byrne’s reckless and fraudulent behaviour, president of the High Court Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns said. While having sympathy for Mr Naughton, who had left the deeds of his home for safekeeping with Mr Byrne, the judge said Mr Naughton could not succeed in his application for the Law Society to pay the costs incurred in seeking to recover possession of the title deeds to his home after Mr Byrne’s activities came to light in 2007. The Solicitors Act provided against the making of the order sought, the judge said. How can they not cover the costs of this case. This has me worried, not only have we lost half the value of the house because we couldn't sell it when we wanted to at the peak of the market, but we may have to pay costs ourselves. Don't be surprised to hear that Thomas is suing the banks for mental stress, having been inspired by David Drumm.
