The High Court has been told that the whereabouts of a solicitor whose practice was shut down by the Law Society yesterday are unknown. Thomas Byrne, from Lad Lane, Baggot St in Dublin, with a practice in Walkinstown, is being investigated by the Law Society. Mr Byrne's practice is the second to be shut down by the Law Society in the last week and a half. |

I would NEVER, NEVER use this guy again. Never returns phone calls.
I had a major problem with employment law and him and his partner (Carmel) - due to their lazyness. I missed out on up to 25,00 in a redundency package. Nice work by them. NEVER use him. |

I wish I'd known about this website months ago. I made the mistake of dealing with him for my apartment purchase. He was rude, ignorant and often refused to answer my calls. I've taken this to the law society. It's incredible how little regulation there is with lawyers. |

Sit in his front office talking to others and his staff who mans the phone. They all say the same. Useless. Even the staff say that they are sick of lying for him. And most of their time is taken up with complaints about him and the other girl Carmel. |

Although I have never dealt with Thomas himself, I am a Legal Executive with 6 years experience and have just recently had dealings with the firm. I dealt with a girl called Aoife and she was very professional, always returned calls, sent stuff out when she said she would. She was out sick for a couple of days and still organised to have things signed when she was out. I think people forget how hard a job it is in the legal world and we can only do what we can. There are plenty of other factors going against us, i.e. the solicitor on the other side's purchase/sale, the bank!!! and sometimes the clients themselves as they think they know more than they actually do. You have to remember there is a lot more involved than getting your money from the bank, giving it to the other side and getting your keys. It can be an absolute nightmare with lots of other things to do that the client hasn't got a clue about because if they did they would be able to do it themselves. I do agree that some solicitors totally take the p**s and as I said I haven't dealt with Thomas directly but I have to say Aoife was very good and I would recommend her to anybody. |

I never ever had a problem with Thomas Byrne. I am not saying that I condone what he did but who the hell in this country is not corrupt and crooked, stop kicking a man that is down. He is an extremely intelligent and likeable person and many have no ill will towards this man. |

I complained to the Law Society about this cowboy 8 years ago. He was then being investigated by the Revenue for spending clients' stamp duty. I received only 50% of my fees back. My father came with me for the last few meetings to Thomas Byrne's office. When we left my father said when he saw Thomas taking a Teletubbies style calculator out of his drawer to work out our final figures that this summed this clown up to a tee. |

Well another solicitor on the Hall of Shame bites the dirt. Well done to those who have kept their posts proper and correct and to the point. All the posts here appeared to be those of people who found him as he is and who did not have any agendas. Would those who are posting on other pages, Enright's etc, please take a lesson from this. Do not continue to politicise the other pages and comments, do not create rash posts, do not over personalise your posts. You are preventing those who may take action from doing so. Thank you. |

This guy has cost my family so much in inheritance tax interest - due to gross incompetence. His Daddy handed him the practice - a spoilt brat. A total, total disaster. I reckon he must have a massive cocaine problem, because no one could be that bad yet have the brains to get a law degree. As from today (practice closed by Law Society 23-10-2007) the game is up - RIP Thomas Byrne Solicitors. |

Thomas, you are obviously posting up on this blog as different people to add balance to a very serious situation for you. "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time". Frances Sheridan and Green - your comments amaze me. It would appear that this guy has run off with up to 100 million (just watch this space!) and these people are defending these actions. Do you also agree with Mr Byrne transferring clients properties into his own name, raising money on them and letting them continue to pay the mortgage. These people could possibly lose everything as a result of these actions and Frances Sheridan and Green have the neck to compliment this man... they must be as crooked as he is! |

Can I have all your money please because if you don't give it to me I will begrudge it. You are like someone who had a harmless encounter with a serial killer and despite the evidence you cannot see beyond your own experience. What exactly do you mean by "but for the grace of god go us all"? Do you mean any of us could be very wealthy but so greedy for more we could steal from whoever we could whenever we could. Well Thomas, I wish we had read this site sooner and we would have reported you to the Law Society ourselves... for what good it would have done. 3 months later they haven't helped us in any way. Our new solicitors don't seem to know what to do either, we have lost in the region of 1 million euros and face a life of trying to work our way out of debt, all because of this man's dishonesty and lack of supervision by the Law Society. If they had closed this man down our lives and others would be a lot better today and we would be spared a lot of heartache and embarrassment. We were making lots of sacrifices to provide a better future for our family, but now over 10 years hard work we are back to square one and that's being optimistic. My sympathy is with the staff who endured this man and their careers stained. |

To Martin Burke and all the foolish and asinine supporters of TB, I have one question: have you checked the deeds of your house in the last 6 months? I would if I were you. In fact anyone who has had any dealings with the gorgeous, polite and courteous Thomas in the last 18 months should do this. I know an elderly couple who paid off their mortgage and lodged the deeds with Thomas for safekeeping. They are blissfully unaware that he 'bought' the house from them without actually paying for it. I know a lady who Thomas kindly brought to lunch the week before the scandal broke and unknown to her he had already 'bought' her holiday home, again without paying for it. To all the supporters of TB it would be great if you could spare a thought for the innocent people he has ripped off. I am certain he will spend time in jail so if you are all determined to support him despite the evidence, make sure to visit him in prison. Thomas, shame on you. I don't know how you are able to sleep at night. |

AVOID (understatement). I have no faith in either the Law Society or the banks now as they are not looking after the innocent people who paid and put their trust in these educated respected people to carry out the appropriate procedures and checks when buying and selling property... this country is going to collapse all because of lack of supervision on governing authorities behalf. Even when it was brought to their attention they still allowed him to practice... Scandalous. |

I don't know who is writing the good reports about this man... himself! Well he was apparently good at forgery... He is a useless, good for nothing, liar (not lawyer) who has ruined many innocent people's lives with his lies, and what's more I don't think very much is being done by the Law Society or the banks to clear up this mess for the ordinary punter who cannot be insured against losses such as this, whereby your solicitor robs you! This system is a joke, no wonder Ireland is heading for a recession with guys like this getting away with white collar robbery. |

Just realised that a solicitor's undertaking is not worth the paper it is written on and the self regulating 'Law Society' have a cap of 700,000 euro on each client... anyone who was investing in the property game will be left high and dry while Mr Byrne walks away and leaves it all behind him like a bad dream while his victims' lives are shattered and will have to live the nightmare for many years to come. Where is the justice in that scenario? Great idea to set up byrnelynnvictims@yahoo.com |

Nothing is heard of Thomas Byrne anymore. What a pity this decent guy has been victimised. He was a good lawyer and didn't deserve this. It's interesting that he has always appeared at any court hearing while others abscond. It underlines the decent kind of man he is. I hope luck comes his way. |

Obviously Jonathan, your life savings were not robbed by Thomas Byrne and your life turned upside down. What a load of rubbish, the only luck this guy deserves is to rot in jail!! Only someone of the same make up would come out with such a rubbish statement. Hope you're not a solicitor, if you are I hope I don't have the misfortune of dealing with you... |

He's obviously not practicing anymore, but what this man has done to his clients is a disgrace. If his clients end up paying for his insane ways there are serious flaws in the Irish legal system... He has been previously investigated by his brother's accounting firm... how handy, well done Law Society of Ireland. |

Every cloud has a silver lining. My friend owed 4,000 euro for an overinflated bill and seriously flawed advice to Thomas Byrne and now he does not have to pay him. There is some justice after all. |

The Law Society struck him off, so I fail to understand the previous comment. |

Thomas is still walking free, why? The Law Society are hoping that with time, the media will forget. |

There is no doubt Thomas Byrne did wrong. But I wonder that nobody has questioned the banks' role in all of this. They were handing out money recklessly to all and sundry, including Mr Byrne, and individuals within the bank were taking a handsome commissions, yet not thoroughly ensuring everything was in order. They aren't being struck off. They won't go to prison. They still have their commission and are living comfortably. Greed is at the bottom of this and I suspect many of the entries here are guilty of that too. |

Poor Thomas, crying in the court room because his MOTHER'S house is going to be taken off her. Well, now you know how it feels. Just under two years on and I am still waiting on my compensation. Law Society is not very helpful either, yet there is a fund set up that every solicitor has to pay into from their wages. So don't try and tell me that there is no compensation, or maybe the Law Society is another form of Thomas Byrne and his friends??? |

Dealt with the very slimy, smarmy Thomas Byrne. Hope he ends up keeping some big hairy con company for a lot of years if the gangsters don't get him first. The staff I met in his office are also lowlife scumbags. Wonder if they are still looking down their noses? |

Thomas Byrne fraudently attmepted to change the deeds of my late mothers house to his own name and also took out a mortgage on the house. Our solicitor and barrister have been hopeless and we have made almost no progress on the matter in the last 2 years. Does anyone know the names of any trustworthy!! solicitor who has successfully concluded a similar case against Thomas Byrne. Has anyone been successful in gaining compensation for loss of value on their property due to Thomas Byrnes actions.
Any information would be very welcome.

Did you ever see such nonesence as that printed in todays mail on sunday,Thomas Byrne is no more reliant on dole payout as George Bush is,simply a publicity stunt set up by the Law Society to show what hard times Mr Byrnes has fallin onto. The question still remains, how much of the 50 million that he defrauded has been paid back, and why this case has not been brought to the courts yet? and for that so called deshiveled look, well in my part of the country ,we call it fashion or style, anyway the scruffy look suits him.Shame on the Mail for not asking the proper questions. |

Hello Tiresandemotional, I know how you feel almost 2 1/2 yrs now will he get any time behind bars. The Law society did sort us out in one case but the other is looming and the banks are getting impatient. A gun man walks into a shop etc robs money and flees, the victims do suffer some emotional stress but they get over this, what prospects do I have over 2 yrs latter still as stressed as the first day, havent had a decent nights sleep since this happened.Family life isnt the same- he has a lot to answer for but to Tired... dont give up get onto the law society tomorrow yourself and keep after them.. |

Still no progress on getting our house back. I saw in last weeks Irish Times ...A client of disgraced solicitor Thomas Byrne has failed to secure legal costs relating to his efforts to recover title documents to his home, which were used by Mr Byrne to obtain mortgages from two banks. Dermot Naughton was a completely innocent victim left to pick up the tab for Mr Byrne’s reckless and fraudulent behaviour, president of the High Court Mr Justice Nicholas Kearns said. While having sympathy for Mr Naughton, who had left the deeds of his home for safekeeping with Mr Byrne, the judge said Mr Naughton could not succeed in his application for the Law Society to pay the costs incurred in seeking to recover possession of the title deeds to his home after Mr Byrne’s activities came to light in 2007. The Solicitors Act provided against the making of the order sought, the judge said.
How can they not cover the costs of this case. This has me worried, not only have we lost half the value of the house because we couldn't sell it when we wanted to at the peak of the market, but we may have to pay costs ourselves.
Don't be surprised to hear that Thomas is suing the banks for mental stress, having been inspired by David Drumm. |
